I wanted to let you know that in the new year I will be working Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. As noted above, we’re growing!
I have hired two very experienced eye doctors from the Seattle area that I would like to introduce as part of my "Burnout Prevention Plan":
Dr. Kuntz trained with me at the University of Washington beginning in 1993 and comes from Pacific Medical Centers, where he was Chief of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kuntz will be seeing patients on Thursdays. He will be helping me with clinic patients and assisting me with Oculoplastic procedures to ensure patients have increased access to treatment.
Dr. Riggs hails from the Berkeley College of Optometry and served as the eye care doctor at the Pacific Medical clinic in Renton. Dr. Riggs is seeing patients on Tuesdays. He will be assisting me with cataract surgery post-operative refractions to ensure our patients have the best refractive outcomes after surgery.
I feel very fortunate to have recruited these two fine colleagues to the team and having more opportunity to serve our patients.
Wishing you a healthy and happy 2022, and looking forward to seeing you soon!
Steven Swedberg, MD
In addition to new doctors we have new clinical and administrative staff joining the Swedberg Eye Care Family!
I grew up in Spokane/Seattle and have practiced in the Puget Sound region since 1988.
My education includes the University of Washington followed by optometry education at University of California Berkeley School of Optometry. After graduation I trained in a residency program at the American Lake Veterans Administration in Tacoma. My practice has been largely with the elderly adult population but I enjoy seeing patients of all ages, including children.
As part of my professional career I have been on multiple overseas mission trips with the Lions In Sight group. These clinics help those without access to vision care or glasses obtain care.
My personal interests include bicycling, vintage bike events, knife making, gardening, and fountain pens. I have been a certified Patches Pal since 1962!
After working many years in a multi-specialty group in Seattle I am proud to join Swedberg Eye Care. The doctors and staff are experienced, professional, and caring.
I grew up in Indianapolis. I moved west in 1980 to attend Stanford University, where I majored in Biology and German Studies.
After I finished Stanford I taught Physics and German at the Branson School near San Francisco. This teaching experience was an important formative experience for me. It still impacts my daily interactions with patients, coworkers, and colleagues. When I was 26 I entered UC San Francisco Medical School.
While at UCSF I met my wife Alice and we got married during our last year of medical school. I spent a year after medical school as a research associate in the Koret Vision Center at UCSF, working closely with Roy Steinberg, MD, PhD.
In 1993, Alice and I matched together at the University of Washington Medical Center in ENT and Ophthalmology respectively. Alice also has a second degree in East Asian Medicine.
I have been practicing Ophthalmology for 20 years. Dr. Swedberg and I were in the same residency class at UW and have remained close since. After working many years in a multi-specialty group in Seattle I am happy to be joining Swedberg Eye Care!
