LICENSED CLINICIANS

Steven Swedberg, MD, PS

Dr. Swedberg is a board-certified ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care with a focus on anterior segment and oculoplastic surgery. He is passionate about helping patients maintain healthy vision and feels privileged to guide them through every step of their care, from routine exams to surgical procedures.


A native of Bellingham, Washington, Dr. Swedberg earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. He completed his medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington, where he developed a strong foundation in both medical and surgical eye care.


Dr. Swedberg is actively involved in the ophthalmology community as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives (AAOE), the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (WAEPS), and the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA). He has also served as past president of WAEPS.

Andrew Sumnicht, MD

Onboarding October 2025: 


Dr. Sumnicht is a board-certified ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive medical and surgical eye care. He has performed more than 1,500 cataract and refractive lens exchange procedures and offers advanced treatment options including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (iStent and canaloplasty). His areas of expertise include cataract surgery, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye disease, uveitis, and oculoplastic procedures. He is especially passionate about restoring and enhancing vision through cataract surgery and advanced lens implant technology.


Dr. Sumnicht grew up in Wisconsin and first discovered the Pacific Northwest while attending Whitworth University in Spokane, WA, where he was a varsity swimmer. He went on to complete his medical degree and ophthalmology residency at Loma Linda University in Southern California. 


In 2022, he and his wife made their home in Edmonds, where they are raising their young daughter and looking forward to welcoming another child soon.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Sumnicht enjoys training for triathlons and marathons, cooking, exploring the outdoors, and family time. He and his family love walks with their dog, cozy evenings with their cats, and taking advantage of all that the Northwest has to offer.


He is fluent in both English and Spanish.

CREDENTIALED CLINICIANS

Practice Manager

Lynn Girdlestone, COA, MHA, OSA, OSC


Lynn joined our practice in 2021, bringing nearly 20 years of experience in ophthalmology and optometry. She oversees all aspects of clinical operations and is closely involved in guiding patients through their care—whether it’s diagnosis counseling, surgical planning, or follow-up support. Patients and families often meet Lynn as their primary point of contact for cataract and oculoplastic surgery, where she ensures a smooth, supportive experience every step of the way.


Outside the clinic, Lynn serves as Vision Director for the Seattle/King County Clinic and the Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program, reflecting her commitment to improving access to eye care in the community. She also contributes to the field nationally as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Ophthalmic Professional magazine.


Lynn is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives, the American Academy of Ophthalmic Personnel, the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society, and the Washington State Healthcare Leaders Association. Her ongoing leadership and involvement help keep our practice connected to the latest advancements in eye care. 

Ophthalmic Technician

Justine Voyles, COA, OSC



Many of our patients already know Justine from the front office, where she greeted visitors and helped coordinate appointments. In 2021, she made the exciting transition to our clinical team as an ophthalmic technician. Since then, she has become an integral part of our patient care experience.


Today, Justine helps guide patients through their visits by preparing them for exams, performing vision testing and imaging, and assisting our doctors both in the clinic and during procedures. She also supports our surgical coordinator to ensure office-based surgeries run smoothly and comfortably for patients.


Justine is a graduate of Peninsula College, brings years of medical administrative experience, and is a proud member of the American Academy of Ophthalmic Personnel (AAOP). Patients appreciate her warmth, professionalism, and ability to make each visit feel both thorough and welcoming.
 

ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM

Billing Coordinator

Edward G., CPC


Edward, a Certified Professional Coder, enjoys the intricacies of medical insurance. He oversees credentialing and carrier relations. 


He is the main Point of Contact regarding insurance and billing! He loves to educate patients regarding their insurance and assist patients in understanding their benefits and responsibilities.

Sarah


Sarah is our talented Front Office Lead who joined our team in Spring 2023! 


 As the first point of contact when you arrive at the office, Sarah will warmly welcome you and ensure you're checked in and prepared for your appointment with the clinical team. 


Her friendly voice will also be one of the first you'll hear when you call us.  



Patient Coordinator

Romelline


Romelline is one of our newest additions to the admin team, joining us in the spring of 2024.

 

With over 10 years of medical administration experience under her belt, Romelline is well-equipped to provide top-notch support. 

 
Romelline coordinates patient care between our office, primary care, and subspecialists, ensuring seamless communication and a stress-free experience for every patient. She is our main point of contact for scheduling surgery.

Welcome Dr. Sumnicht

Beginning in the fall of 2025, we will be welcoming Dr. Andrew Sumnicht as the new lead provider at our clinic. 

He will be seeing patients throughout the week and will be taking over as the primary cataract surgeon for the practice. Please see the About Us page for more information.
